This day in baseball: McIntire’s almost-no-hitter

Dodgers pitcher Harry McIntire pitched 10.2 innings of no-hit baseball against the Pirates on August 1, 1906.  He then gave up a single to Pirates second baseman Claude Ritchey and would go on to lose the game 1-0 on an unearned run.

  1. A pitcher going 10+ innings? In one day? Unheard of! We’ve got relievers now who can’t throw to more than three batters in one game. And they’re making millions in the process! What happened? 🙂
