I read this as words from a man who is on the outside of the ballpark fence looking in, who wasn’t invited to be a part of the game. But he wants in so bad he’s willing to accept anything they’ll give him just to be a participant. The same way I sometimes think, “Well, I don’t really have to be rich. Just give me a bit of a pay bump, and I’ll be content… for little while, anyways.”
