It was Fowler’s first start in three years, having just returned from service in the Canadian Army during World War II. The no-hitter was also the first by an Athletics pitcher since 1916.

I noted it was his only win of the season (he went 1-2). Bet it’s the only time the sole win of the season was a no-no.
