Ed Summers of the Detroit Tigers pitched all eighteen innings of a 0-0 tie with the Washington Senators on July 16, 1909. This contest at Bennett Park would be the longest scoreless game in American League history.
On August 30, 1905, an 18-year-old Ty Cobb came up in his first Major League at-bat against Jack Chesbro of the Highlanders. Cobb doubled in the first inning of a 5-3 victory for the Detroit Tigers at Bennett Park. Cobb went on to collect 4,189 hits over his 24-year career.
In the first inning at Bennett Park on 12 July 1911, Ty Cobb stole second, third, and home plate as the Tigers trounced Philadelphia 9-0. It was the second time in his career that he completed the stolen base cycle, achieving the feat a total of four times over the course of his career.
On 25 April 1901, the American League opener was played at Bennett Park in Detroit. Going into the bottom of the ninth, the Tigers trailed Milwaukee 13-4. Astonishingly, Detroit scored ten runs to come back and win 14-13.
