This day in baseball: The Georgia Peach is a master thief

Ty Cobb

In the first inning at Bennett Park on 12 July 1911, Ty Cobb stole second, third, and home plate as the Tigers trounced Philadelphia 9-0.  It was the second time in his career that he completed the stolen base cycle, achieving the feat a total of four times over the course of his career.

  1. The Babe and Ty Cobb are my favorites. When I read that he would deliberately sharpen his cleats for the slides, I just had to shake my head with that fear and intimidation strategy. It must have been really something to see him play in person.
