Quote of the day

I walk into the clubhouse today and it’s like walking into the Mayo Clinic. We have four doctors, three therapists and five trainers. Back when I broke in, we had one trainer who carried a bottle of rubbing alcohol, and by the 7th inning he’d already drunk it.

  1. sounds like there’s not much room for mental weakness in the baseball clubhouse, but apparently, the psychologist is gaining more and more respect among players who have it much harder than i could ever imagine. that 6-7 month grind, the expectations and media, competition…not an easy life. a lot of money, but still.

    1. I’ve skimmed a couple articles recently talking about sports psychology and its benefits even at the high school level. It’s definitely gaining recognition in the sports world, in all sports at all levels.

      1. i’m sure glad you posted the Lasorda quote. it has me doing the same…skimming articles on psychology and sports with john smoltz popping up everywhere.
