I came across this photo last night, depicting the world’s largest baseball player in 1908. This young man weighed 450 pounds and played for the Citizens Baseball Team in Emporium, Pennsylvania. I wish I could find more details about this guy, such as his name and maybe even a few statistics, but haven’t had much luck with my search.

Bet a 1/2 swing would send it out of the park. 😉
Who needs steroids when you can just hit the buffet?
LOL 😀
At least we know he bats left-handed. Geez, even I’m not that big.

Good observation, I didn’t pay attention to how he was holding the bat. You see folks this large more often, but something about it existing in 1908 really threw me.
I hope someone gets to read this due to it taking 6 years for information to surface but his name is George Hackett and this comes from emporium locals.
Thank you! Is there somewhere in particular in Emporium where this information is housed? A library or museum, perhaps?
Patty Hackett is his real name I live in emporium pa
Thank you! A nickname for George? (see comment above)
His name was George “Fatty” Hackett. Later worked for circus/sideshows as “Baby Jack”, was over 640 at one time & by 1942 was down to 186 & died in 1947 under 150lbs
Aha! That explains the “Patty” reference. That is an insane fluctuation in weight. Do you know if what he did in the circus, like a performance of some kind?
