On 22 July 1913, Harry Franklin “Slim” Sallee became the first pitcher in St. Louis Cardinals history to steal home plate. He did so in the third inning at Ebbets Field in a 3-1 victory over the Brooklyn Superbas (a.k.a. Dodgers).
