In the fourth inning on 6 October 1923, Braves shortstop Ernie Padgett pulled off the first unassisted triple play in National League history (and the fourth in Major League history). For the first out, he caught a line drive hit by Phillies first baseman Walter Holke. He then stepped on second to double up James Tierney and, finally, tagged Cliff Lee coming off first base for the third out.
