I love that baseball lasts 162 games for a couple of reasons, one being that it really determines what team is worthy of a division title which makes me kind of wish we had the old format of four divisions and four winners. I don’t like the wildcard. It makes the post season feel like a tournament. The other thing I love about the 162 is the adversity Glavine describes because it’s so much like our own lives which are far from smooth.
Agreed — 162 games is brutal, but it keeps things honest, and you really do get an accurate look at who is the best. And agree about postseason: it feels like half the league makes it into the playoffs anymore, and that just doesn’t seem right.

I’m not sure if it pisses me off when a wild card team sneaks in and wins the world series or if if makes me excited for the underdog.
That is the conundrum, for sure.
