There were times I went to spring training as a non-roster player and I was the 28th or 29th on the depth chart. But I felt strongly that if I went there and showed what I could do, I’d come out on the top 25 and the roster.

Billy is on the MLB Network quite often. I find him to be funny and smart and pleasantly sarcastic and after reading the quote you’ve included her……a guy with a lot of determination. I love that attitude even when I choose to do nothing for a day except sit on the couch and watch baseball…….I tell myself that I’m gonna stay awake and watch the west coast game too.

Bill Ripken’s book “State of Play” is interesting. I do recommend it. He can get a little testy sometimes, but, just as he does on the MLB network, he always makes sense and never talks down to fans as he tries to explain things from a player’s perspective.
