“The Chipper Jones Song,” by Jason Johnson

It appears that this twangy tune has been out for over a decade now, but today is the first time I’ve ever heard it. Many of the lyrics do bring back memories of watching Chipper Jones play, and looking at the comments section of the video, it seems to be a huge hit with Braves fans.

  1. This is my dad’s song! He wrote it when I was just a kid and he got to take us with him to an interview he did on the news about it in about 2011. Apparently the Braves stadium (both turner and SunTrust) have been playing it without telling him about it, but if you want to actually support him he has published stuff on Apple and Spotify under the name Jason Johnson! Thanks for posting this, it’s funny to think people have been listening to my dads voice for over a decade!

  2. My son ran across your post and shared it with me today.

Yes, I wrote this as a parody of Dr. Hook and was surprised when it received the notoriety it did. They even played this song at the Braves game the night they honored Chipper’s HOF induction.

It’s hard to believe it has been so long ago. Glad you enjoyed it!

    1. Oh wonderful, thank you for stopping by! I really had fun watching Chipper Jones play when he was still at it, and I do really enjoy the song. Thank you for recording and sharing it with the world!
