A man has to have goals – for a day, for a lifetime – and that was mine, to have people say, “There goes Ted Williams, the greatest hitter who ever lived.”
I’m too young to remember Willaims, but my dad tells me the opposite of “he had a lot of fans,” especially in Boston where his relationship with almost everyone was apparently strained to say the least. I guess I lack guts because if Williams were still alive and happened to walk into a room where my regular ass was sitting, I would probably shapeshift into a poodle and shake and then piss in my pants and after i stopped shaking, i would motion to the bartender to keep em coming and then I would let Mr. Williams talk as big as he wanted to talk.
He had a lot of fans, for he was quite the hitter, but like a lot of these guys, it seems that he was his own biggest fan.
