This day in baseball: The Babe’s first slam

On May 20, 1919, Red Sox pitcher Babe Ruth hit the first grand slam of his career as the Sox defeated the Browns 6-4 at Sportsman’s Park in St. Louis.  The Babe would go on to hit sixteen bases loaded round trippers over the course of his career.

As always, your posts have me racing off to baseball reference and baseball almanac. I’m pleasantly surprised at some of the names on the all time grand slam list; Robin Ventura with 17, Dave Kingman 16, Richie Sexson 15 and my favorite player as a kid-Harold Baines with 13.
