New York Yankees outfielder Joe DiMaggio struck out three times in one game, facing Cleveland Indians pitcher Mel Harder on June 19, 1942. It was the only time in his career that DiMaggio would strike out three times in a single contest.
This is an amazing Dimaggio accomplishment especially when compared to today’s game where over the last few years, I think strikeouts are happening at a record pace. And after seeing what v added….the 8.3% of his season k’s. I had never heard of Mel Harden and now I will never forget him.
You got me curious, so I checked. In 1942 Joe D struck out 36 times in 154 games. So he had 8.3% of his strikeouts in one day. Thanks for the info.
