Hubbs had taken flying lessons for the previous two off-seasons to overcome his fear of flying, obtaining his license just the previous month. Ken Hubbs had been the1962 NL Rookie of the Year.

While I think he should be in the Hall of Fame, there were certain players that Bill James always had a bug up his ass about, and Hubbs was one of them. Any references he made to Hubbs were cutting at best.
Fascinating. Hubbs is one of those players I know very little about. I will certainly have to explore this.
